A Day of Art and Education: LAS Students Explore Warsaw’s Cultural Landscape

Two weeks ago, on Friday May 23rd, a group of Liberal Arts and Sciences students took part in an exciting and art-filled trip to Warsaw, where they visited three important cultural institutions: the State Ethnographic Museum (PME), the Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art (CSW) and the Museum of Modern Art.

At the PME, the students explored an inspiring exhibition of photography by Ernest Cole, offering a glimpse into African social history. The group was then guided through the exhibit by its curator, Julia Grudzień, whose insights deepened their understanding of the works on display.

Next, at Ujazdowski Castle, Julian Tomala welcomed the students and led them on a special behind-the-scenes tour of the institution’s archives. They were joined by Piotr Woźniakiewicz, Monika Marchewka and Małgorzata Czyżewska from the audiovisual and artistic documentation departments, who shared their knowledge about preserving contemporary art materials.

The trip concluded at the Museum of Modern Art, where students engaged with exhibitions showcasing both Polish and African photography, alongside a broad range of contemporary artworks.

It was a day packed with creativity, learning, and meaningful conversations — an unforgettable experience that left everyone inspired!
